Harriet Tubman- One Woman Show
Selfless, courageous, and deeply committed, Harriet Tubman (1822–1913) stands as one of the most important figures in African American and American history. Best known for leading countless enslaved people from bondage to freedom via the Underground Railroad, Tubman’s life was rich with bravery, resilience, and remarkable achievement.
Please join the UCLA Emeriti and Retirees Relations Center (ERRC) on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the University Club, located on the UCLA campus at 480 Charles E. Young Drive East, as Eddie Murphy brings Harriet Tubman radiantly back to life. Through this powerful portrayal, UCLA will experience the extraordinary story of a true American hero.
Eddie Murphy's Biographical Sketch
A Wellsville Ohio native, Eddie Murphy lived in Southern California for thirty-seven years and served as the former director of the UCLA Emeriti/Retiree Relations Center. From this experience she gleaned clues on how to manifest a fruitful, rich retirement. Ten years ago, she returned to her hometown and became passionately involved in its revitalization. Currently Eddie is President of the Wellsville Community Foundation-of which she is a founding trustee-endeavoring to make a difference for the community at large. She considers it a great honor to portray Harriet Tubman, one of her heroines, endeavoring to share her words and spirit with the world.
Parking: There is no cost to attend; but we strongly recommend that you register in advance. Light refreshments will be served. The nearest parking lot to the University Club is Lot 2. Those with permits can park in any blue permit space. Those who need parking can do so at the lowest level of Lot 2 in the "visitor" parking area.
Anyone registering for the free event is welcome to enjoy lunch/snacks at the Club without the requirement of being sponsored by a Club Member. The Club has an extensive menu and looks forward to seeing you and your friends. The Club will accept credit or debit cards for the payment of food/beverages.
