Solstice Canyon Trail
Roberts Ranch House Ruins
Solstice Canyon offers a pretty easy walk alongside a flowing creek in a wide canyon. The big attraction on this 2.1-mile round trip hike is a small waterfall near some interesting ruins. Solstice Canyon is a great venue for a picnic and a stroll. The wide trail is so level it can be walked in flip-flops, making this one of the most family-friendly hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Hike Description:
This Solstice Canyon hike will offer two options:
Option 1:
An easy 2.5 mile in and out walk in a beautiful canyon alongside a flowing creek to a small waterfall next to interesting ruins. The trail is wide and smooth and has only an elevation change of 300 feet, representing one of the most family-friendly hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Option 2:
A moderately challenging 3.1 mile loop hike for those who wish a bit more exercise. This loop has about a 700 feet of elevation gain, has one very shallow creek crossing, and is more uneven. It offers great canyon and ocean views. The first part of the loop shares the route of Option 1.
Both hikes start from the Solstice Canyon Education Shelter. Restrooms are located 100’ up the main trail past the parking lot.
Where: Meet at the parking area near the Education Center. Take PCH to Malibu and turn inland on Corral Canyon Road (West of Malibu Canyon Road and Pepperdine University at the intersection with the 76 gas station). The park entrance is on the left, just around the first bend in the road.
